In 1993, curator Hans Ulrich Obrist introduced do it, a concept that tested how exhibitions could be rendered more flexible and open-ended. Now more than twenty years later, and as many around the world remain physically distanced, YoungArts is proud to iterate on Obrist's do it (home) — a reimagined project presented in collaboration with Independent Curators International (ICI).

 

As the world is grappling with the changes brought on by the pandemic, art programming has largely shifted into a digital space. In lieu of a traditional exhibition presented in a virtual gallery, YoungArts presents do it (home), its first-ever exhibition open to all disciplines in literary, visual and performing arts. For this season’s annual fall exhibition, 28 artists representing 9 disciplines (Classical Music, Dance, Design Arts, Jazz, Photography, Theater, Visual Arts, Voice, Writing) will share new works specifically created for this exhibit in response to prompts provided as part of the do it (home) project and framework.

do it (home) is curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist and produced by Independent Curators International (ICI), New York. do it (home) is made available to art spaces internationally free of charge, in response to the COVID-19 crisis, with the support of ICI’s Board of Trustees, contributors to ICI’s Access Fund, and the Jeanne and Dennis Masel Foundation.
